I'm sorry, but saying nothing happens in the slice-of-life episodes and that thry hurt is the pace is absurd. I swear, it seems like 50% of anime fans, so battered by years of action shonens, are so oblivious to character-related aspects of a series when a realistic character driven series comes around.

Well, 7 attendees present when the guests showed up. By the time the panel ended there were maybe 20 people there...still not a great attendance, but much better than single digits.

As to questions I didn't get a chance to ask, there were a few. Others' questions were so good, however, that they really trumped my own, so I was happy to take notes. Unfortunately, I've tossed my notes away from that session and don't remember what I'd written down to ask if the opportunity presented itself.

I can't believe I missed this. Nice Ink... Nice. And the transcript is much appreciated. Good questions and answers. It's still strange to see such small attendance for panels like this. I know it's an old issue, but this is the real deal and these D's and P's have so much heart, and out of 29,000 folks in attendance con-wide, only 7 make it out... At least it's a treat for those in the know. Thanks again for being there and posting, it really counts. Is there anything you wish you got an answer on that you didn't?

Actually, I think the first time I heard any of the meme calling or whatever was actually Sunday, in the dealer's room line, just before I left. And other than the man in the Ogiue panel, the woman who was clearly upset that moe destroyed Darker than Black season 2, and Mysterious Fire Alarm Person, I can't think of anyone else who was memorably rude.

Then again, teenagers will be teenagers, and my career path will likely result in me dealing with a great deal of them, so maybe I just have more antibodies or something.

I chose to use a [sic] not necessarily because one is "more correct," but because our house style calls for a macron while the panel title and panel materials used "ou." I wanted to make it clear that this inconsistency was intentional. I concede that it might not be the most appropriate use of [sic], but I felt it was the best way to denote a shift in style.

If you read my previous post, you'll note that both are "true to the Japanese." Shoujo is wapuro style Romaji, while shōjo is revised Hepburn. They're simply different standards, wapuro being more common on the internet because "ou" is a helluva lot easier to type than the o with a macron.

Long story short, "shoujo" is truer to written Japanese, "shōjo" is truer to spoken Japanese, neither is wrong and neither is better than the other hence there's no need for the [sic] (which is supposed to indicate only incorrect or unusual/archaic spellings, neither of which applies here since the "ou" standard is far from unusual).

Why the [sic] after shoujo? It's just a different-- but equally valid-- romanization convention. I actually prefer the "ou" and "ei" to the macrons, as it's more accurate to the Japanese phonetic spelling (plus the macron doesn't distinguish between the oo as in Oosaka and the ou as in Toukyou).

I think there are hidden expenses when putting something like this in a digital format. Not to mention what it will do for the sales of manga in bookstores, which isn't that hot to begin with. It's going to take a lot to see the widespread adoption of digital print manga. The technology is there and with HTML5 starting to gain ground, I can see a huge shift in the next couple of months. Does this translate to more people reading manga, I'm not sure. Will I read more manga if I can get it on my iPhone (sorry, no iPad or Kindle) maybe. This should be an interesting next couple of months.

There are some things I like better about FMA1 and some things I like better about FMA2 - I agree that the bond between Ed and Al seemed stronger in FMA1, though FMA 2 had a more detailed, complete plot in my opinion. But they're both great shows =)

I've read all your FMA columns - I came into them about halfway through the series, went back to read all your earlier ones and have been following weekly ever since. I haven't always agreed with what you had to say, but your analyses were always thoughtful and fair. It's amazing that considering your emotional relationship with the first FMA series (and thank you for sharing something that probably isn't the easiest thing to bring up) that you were able to so rationally compare the two series at all, and I mean that as a compliment! So, thanks for many weeks of good reading.

As for your final question, I think because the "intended audience" is sometimes hard to define for different works, (for instance, Pretty Cure - who would have thought that both young preteen girls and old middle-aged men would both derive so much different types of pleasure from the same show ...) I would say that any answer to the question would be entirely subjective.
