Spring is finally in full swing here on the East Coast, bringing with it green trees, blue skies, chirping birds, and all of those things that don't really bring out a particularly strong impulse to sit inside and punch letters into a computer. But how could we possibly resist our inner bloggers, when there's so much to write about? In the coming weeks, we've got convention reports, long-overdue feature articles, and of course, Ink's new column – Fullmetal Alchemist: The Brotherhood Diaries!

Outside of that, I've just settled my plans for my first ever weekend at Otakon in Baltimore, where you should be able to find Ink, Karl, and I come this July. And in the next week, you just might see a new staff member on the team, and a special promotion for a current one. Stay tuned for all the fantastic things up ahead.

If you weren't paying attention, this month had some great developments in anime, with the streaming of tons of new spring season anime series (discussed in Podcast #014), as well as the first in what will hopefully be a major trend of free manga online – Viz's preview of Rumiko Takahashi's Rin-ne. We also had some bittersweet news of Will Wright's leaving EA, and tragedy in CPM's bankruptcy. Two anime reviews, a comic book review, CPAC 2009 coverage, and TWO chances to win Schoolgirl Milky Crisis (Enter the blog contest and the podcast contest) round off a fantastic month here at Ani-Gamers.

If you're man enough, read about all of this month's posts after the break.

Hey there, readers. I hope you've been enjoying the posts over the last few weeks, despite the lower frequency of updates. I've tried to make sure that, since we're putting out less articles a week, the ones that we do put out are of better quality, so that you're still getting some good stuff from us week after week. On that topic, there are some nice feature articles in the pipeline that might finally see the light of day next month, so definitely watch out for those. Plus, we've got a contest coming up, and one has already started over on the Ani-Gamers Podcast.

In March, we had a bunch of reviews, for 5 Centimeters Per Second, the Afro Samurai video game, and much more. Some anime and game news trickled in as well, with news of Bioshock 2 and the stateside release date of Miyazaki's Ponyo movie. I missed my chance last week, but I might do a News Briefs post soon to round up our late coverage of the Game Developers Conference. Till next time, dear readers!

Check out this month's posts after the break.

This Month in Ani-Gamers ~ February 2009

February was Comic Con month for us here at Ani-Gamers, with news, previews, and more from the massive New York Comic Con 2009 coming out throughout the month. (Don't forget to read my convention report!) Now that I've exhausted most of my NYCC content, we should be back to regularly scheduled programming in the future (excepting a few non-Comic Con-specific feature articles that I researched while at the con).

Other than that, I'm also looking to our future as a moneymaking blog by figuring out ways to optimize our ad structure so that I can pay our current and future staffers. Oh, and you might notice that the "On Deck" section is filling up down there. I've been meaning to weed through some of our old reviews (especially some of Karl's) for a while now, so expect them to be published pretty frequently in the coming weeks while I prepare some new feature articles.

February was fun, but March is bringing with it Castle Point Anime Convention, where Ink and I will be hosting an "Anime Blogging" panel. More details on that one as we prepare for the con. Thanks for reading, and make sure to check out all of this month's posts after the break.

This Month in Ani-Gamers ~ January 2009

Hey there, welcome to the first "This Month in Ani-Gamers" post. Unlike our previous column, "This Week in Ani-Gamers," I'll now be posting the latest stories on a monthly basis, along with some editorial commentary on where the site is headed.

On to business. In January, Ani-Gamers kicked off its first month of the year with a high concentration of editorial content like reviews, columns, and features. We announced our Top 3 Anime, Manga, and Games of the Year, and even talked about our favorite titles in the two-part Ani-Gamers Podcast #011 (part 1, part 2). Rounding it all off, Ink finally posted his second Otakudemia column, providing a brilliant look at Speed Grapher's noir themes. And yes, there was some big news, such as the announcement of the Cowboy Bebop Hollywood movie and the call to arms for Kamina as MTV's Baddest Badass.

In the future, Ani-Gamers will be moving toward a slightly more opinion-based model, meaning that we will balance our simple news posts with some more opinion content such as reviews, critiques, and columns. Will news go away? Of course not! How will our readers stay up-to-date with current events in geekdom without reading our site? Actually, don't answer that one.

Anyway, the Super Bowl party is getting started around here, so I've gotta take a break from blogging to pretend that I care about any football game that doesn't feature the Devil Bats. In the meantime, check out the month's posts after the break.

Wow, this was a packed week indeed! Regardless of the reports from the show floor asserting that E3 sucked this year, we here at Ani-Gamers finally were able to muster up real-time coverage of Los Angeles's Electronics Entertainment Expo. No, we didn't have reporters at E3, but boy did live streaming of the press conferences help us out! Make sure to check out the three big posts that our new staff member Maxwell "Pigeonflu" McGee put up for Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony's press conferences, among the many other E3 news bites scattered around the blog.

We still need more votes in the poll on the sidebar, since at present there aren't enough to warrant a final decision on the news change. Read this post if you want to find out more.

Finally, "This Week" is back in business, even if it is a day late. Due to the lateness of today's article, it will not discuss any posts that came out today or yesterday. News was slow this week since I was spending a lot of time planning out the Ani-Gamers restructuring, which may or may not actually contain news. More on that in this post. Meanwhile, the only real news posts that went up were about the dub cast for Gundam 00 and the Haruhi sequel (hint, it exists). Goddammit, if only I had asked Brad about 00 in the interview I did a mere two weeks before the announcement!

Reviews didn't take a dive due to my vacation, seeing as I published two of Uncle Yo's reviews: Slayers (just in time for the Slayers Revolution premiere) and Shigofumi. Thanks Karl, now that you've compared it to Lain and Boogiepop, I'm gonna have to go buy Shigofumi!

Remember, my friends, to sign up for the newsletter.

This was one of the most action-packed weeks we've had yet on Ani-Gamers, and I don't really know why. Anyway, we started off the week with a horrible tragedy: the attack on over 24 people in Japan's otaku shopping district, Akihabara. Other highlights for the week include Media Blasters licensing the short anime series Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, and Production I.G announcing plans to release a revamped Ghost in the Shell in Japan this July.

In terms of reviews, we got two awesome reviews from our prolific reviewer Uncle Yo: One for Production I.G's twentieth anniversary project Ghost Hound, and another for Gainax's re-envisioning of Hideaki Anno's classic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Look forward to more reviews and a con report or two in the future. Oh, and Uncle Yo and I will both be at AnimeNEXT in New Jersey, so watch out people!

We still don't have anyone subscribed to the newsletter, so make sure to be the first to sign up by clicking here.

This week was a little slow, but we did have some interesting anime news. Tokyopop split their company in two, laying off nearly 40 employees in the process, and Newtype released a ton of stills and pieces of production art from the upcoming second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I've still got a ton of reviews to edit and post. See you all next week!

Welcome to the first "This Week in Ani-Gamers" column. Yes, I know that it's on the blog, and we don't post columns on the blog, but the purpose of this is to give everyone a chance to read what's been going on lately here at Ani-Gamers, so the blog is the best place for it. Expect a combination of links to the latest posts and editorial commentary in this space every week.

If you'd like to receive these notifications by email, please sign up for the Ani-Gamers Newsletter, which will send you a copy of each week's "This Week in Ani-Gamers" post. Enjoy!
